Kuala Lumpur, April 30, 2013 - School students grades 4 and 5 will have the opportunity to become young scientists by participating in a Space Weather Innovation Competition organised by the National Space Agency (ANGKASA) in collaboration with the Space Science Institute National University of Malaysia (UKM Angkasa).

Space Weather Innovation Competition is one of the competition under the National Innovation Movement 2013 - Cultivation of Science, Technology and Innovation programme, by providing exposure to students to do research on space weather by using an instrument known as a Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance (SID) monitor. This instrument will be able to measure the level of space weather disturbances in the ionospheric layer of Earth's atmosphere.

The competition is open only to the students  in schools registered with the Ministry of Education and MARA Junior Science College (MRSM). For more information and registration, visit our website at www.inovasisid2013.angkasa.gov.my. Registration starts on May 3, 2013. Each student in the group selected have to answer survey questions in the website. All applications must be submitted before or on May 31, 2013 to ANGKASA. Each school may submit only one application only. The selected schools will be notified by the organiser.
